Latest borough-by-borough coronavirus infection rates for Greater Manchester

Rochdale now has the highest infection rate in Greater Manchester, the latest Public Health England (PHE) figures show.

The were were 442.4 cases per 100, 000 people in the borough in the seven days to October 13 - that's 117 more than the previous week.

In Manchester the number of new cases has fallen for the sixth day in a row.

There were 2,429 cases in the city in the seven days to October 13 - 624 fewer than the previous week.

However, Manchester's rate remains the second highest of all 10 boroughs in the region with 439.4 cases per 100,000 people.

Much of the city's spike - which saw the infection rate peak at 582 on October 6 - has been attributed to outbreaks at halls of residence after students returned to university.

But more detailed local figures that that in student areas like Fallowfield, new cases are down 65 per cent week-on-week.

The infection rate is down in Trafford too with 313.4 cases for the same week - 68 less than the previous seven days.

For the first time Bury has reached 400 threshold, with 401.1 people testing positive for the virus per 100,000 population.

In Salford the infection rate stands at 399.5 per 100, 000 people and in Oldham 378.7.

Wigan's rate stands at 427.8 while Tameside's has climbed to 331.1.

Stockport's has climbed slightly to 272.4 per 100, 000 population.

Last week the row over imposing Tier 3 lockdown restrictions on Greater Manchester continued, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson describing the situation in the region as 'grave and worsening every day'.

All ten boroughs remain under Tier 2 restrictions.
