Latest Arsenal transfer rumours: Wonderkids sign deals, Fernandes battle, Coutinho deal claim

Arsenal’s start to the 2020-21 season has been very impressive, made even more great following a strong summer transfer window.

Mikel Arteta brought in a host of new players - including the standout signing, Thomas Partey - on the international transfer deadline day.

The Gunners will now have one eye on the January window, whilst still trying to sort out some of their players’ future.

Here are the latest Arsenal transfer rumours.

Man City 1-0 Arsenal: Mikel Arteta post-match press conference

Youngsters signs first pro contract

Zane Monlouis and Charlie Patino have signed their first professional contracts with Arsenal, the club has confirmed.

The 17-year-olds are both products of the Hale End Academy, and are now England youth internationals.

Both players have featured consistently for the Arsenal Under-18s this season, and are both technically-gifted players.

The Gunners have congratulated both on their first professional deals as they continue to support them with their development.

Juve join Gunners in race for “new Ronaldo”

Juventus have joined Arsenal in the race for Sporting Lisbon starlet Joelson Fernandes, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato .

The teenage sensation has been compared to Cristiano Ronaldo - who, like Fernandes, also started at the Portuguese side.

The report has claimed that the Gunners are now in a battle with Juve, Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona and Ajax to sign the 17-year-old.

Arteta’s side were trying to persuade Fernandes to move to the Emirates Stadium in the summer, but Sporting convinced him to stay put for the time being.

Arsenal came “really close” to Coutinho deal

Arsenal were “really close” to signing Barcelona star Philippe Couitinho in August, according to Fabrizio Romano, who spoke to the Liverpool Echo.

The Gunners were eyeing a deal to sign Houssem Aouar, but failed to agree on a fee with Lyon, however, before that, Romano has revealed that Coutinho was on the club’s radar.

The ex-Liverpool star looked to be set for a move away from Barcelona, but since new boss Ronald Koeman has come in, the Brazil international has become an important member of the squad.

Romano said: “Before, Barca were considering to sell Philippe Coutinho and he was on the list to sell, so his agents were working to offer him to Tottenham, to Arsenal. Arsenal actually really close and at the start of August, they were ready.”
