Jovic transfer blow
Arsenal’s hopes of landing Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic have been dashed following reports that the Spanish giants plan to keep him at the Bernabeu.
Jovic has been a disappointment following his £53 million move from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer having managed only two goals in 24 appearances.
However, despite interest from Arsenal, The Sun claim that Los Blancos are set to show their faith in the 22-year-old, who scored 27 goals in 48 games for Frankfurt during the 2018/19 season.
Jovic would be a natural successor to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the Arsenal attack, with the Gabon striker having this week been linked with Barcelona.
The Gunners’ London rivals Chelsea are also thought to be interested in Jovic.
Upamecano urged to make decision
Germany legend Lothar Matthaus has urged highly rated centre-back Dayot Upamecano to stay at RB Leipzig amid interest from Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United.
While the 21-year-old is yet to be capped by France, he has garnered significant interest from across Europe following a string of commanding performances at the heart of Leipzig’s defence.
Upamecano has made 29 appearances in total this season, helping Julian Nagelsmann’s side reach the Champions League quarter-finals at Tottenham’s expense and stay in the hunt for the Bundesliga title.
However, while Matthaus - who captained Germany to the 1990 World Cup - believes the defender can benefit from continuing his progress with Leipzig before making a big move.
“I can see him playing for all the big clubs when he gets more experience,” Matthaus told Sky Sports in Germany.
“He's a young player, highly rated, fast, has a good positional game and uses his body well for a 21-year-old. But a year or two in Leipzig would not hurt him.
“Leipzig are a top team - one of the last eight remaining in the Champions League.
“I can still see one or two per cent where he can learn, but he's a huge player and that's why I'm not surprised that top clubs in Europe are after him."
Arsenal want Draxler
The Gunners have reignited their interest in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Julian Draxler, according to Fussball Transfers via Sport Witness.
Draxler is expected to depart the Parc des Princes with his contract set to expire in 2021 after failing to nail down a place in Thomas Tuchel’s starting line-up.
Hertha Berlin are said to be keen on the 26-year-old, but Arsenal have also reportedly ‘put the feelers out’ ahead of a possible cut-price deal for the former Schalke playmaker.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is expected to bolster his midfield when the transfer window reopens, with Dani Ceballos tipped to return to Real Madrid once his loan ends.
