Latest Arsenal transfer rumours: Huge Lemar boost, Matviyenko price tag, striker bid rejected

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is still searching for his first signing since taking over the role at the Emirates and the rumour mill is now heading towards overdrive.

The Gunners continue to struggle in the Premier League after just one win so far during the Spaniard's short tenure to date.

There is some hope, though, based on the resilience shown in a 2-2 draw at Chelsea in midweek. However, it is widely acknowledged that Arsenal still need to recruit this month to ensure they compete for at least the top six.

This has naturally led to rumours aplenty and here is the latest gossip round-up.

Promising Lemar news for Arsenal

Thomas Lemar to Arsenal is edging closer according to reports in the Spanish press.

The Gunners attempted to sign the Frenchman before he made the move to Atletico Madrid but now Lemar is surplus to requirements.

Diego Simeone is believed to want the 24-year-old out of the club as Atletico desperately need to trim their wage budget to bring other players in.

Marca, per Sport Witness, are now reporting that 'all roads lead to Arsenal'. The Spanish media outlet state that the Gunners are 'very well on track' in their bid to sign the midfielder, who cost Atletico €60 million (£50.6m) when they signed him from AS Monaco two years ago.

Arsenal told Matviyenko price tag

Arsenal have been told how much they will have to pay to sign Mykola Matviyenko from Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Gunners have struggled defensively this season, having shipped 34 goals in 24 Premier League games.

Legend Charlie Nicholas has even stated that his old club must sign at least two defenders during the January transfer window.

Sky Sports say that Arsenal are in talks over a potential deal for the 23-year-old, with the defender having 18 months left on his contract.

Striker bid rejected

Arsenal have rejected an offer from Brentford for striker Folarin Balogun.

That's according to MailOnline, who are reporting that the Gunners have turned down the bid of £5 million plus add-ons.

The England under-18s striker has come to the attention of Brentford, while AC Milan are also planning a shock bid.

Balogun was born in New York and moved to England when he was two. He is widely known as one of the top attacking talents in the country.
