Latest Arsenal transfer rumours: Houssem Aouar bid limit, Tony Adams on Edu transfer mistake

The transfer window may be shut right now but that doesn't stop the news and rumours doing the rounds.

The January transfer window is not far off and Arsenal are already, no doubt, planning ahead to see what deals they could be doing.

Here are some of the latest transfer news pieces regarding the Gunners.

Limit on Aouar price

Arsenal's interest in Lyon midfielder during the summer transfer window was well documented.

According to French outlet Le10Sport, the Gunners were unwilling to pay over the odds for the 22 year old.

Despite Mikel Arteta's need for a new midfield enforcer, the report says the club had a specific value for Aouar and they would not be budging on it.

A £35million bid was believed to be rejected by the French club and instead Arsenal went for Thomas Partey who made his debut at Manchester City over the weekend.

Right decision to let Martinez go?

Arsenal legend Tony Adams believes the club should have done more to keep goalkeeper Emi Martinez at the club.

The Argentine was sold to Aston Villa last month for around £20million having lost his place to Bernd Leno.

Former centre-back Adams says although he rates Mikel Arteta and the job he has done in the dugout at the Emirates, he did not agree with the decision to let Martinez go.

Adams told Premier League Productions: “We’re still not beating those big teams, are we?

“It’s been prevalent in the last few years that we can only go so far. Listen I’m a massive Arteta fan – he’s got the best out of those players.

“I think the recruitment has been very poor in the last few years to be honest with you. He’s doing a miracle job with them by putting an FA Cup on the sideboard last season.

“I was hoping and praying at the start of the season. One with the goalkeeper situation which I disagreed with him; I thought we should have kept Martinez and two with the back four.”

Gabriel good enough?

Pundit Micah Richards says he still has doubts over the Arsenal defence this season.

The former Manchester City player, writing in a column for the MailOnline, has questioned whether summer recruit Gabriel is up to standard.

However, he did have praise for new midfielder Thomas Partey, who arrived from Atletico Madrid on deadline day.

"Arsenal’s defence still bothers me (is Gabriel the right standard?) but it is evident they are moving in the right direction," wrote Richards.

“They are a long way from the peaks that Wenger brought but the picture is improving. Most importantly, nobody is laughing at them any more.

“When you add in that they have just signed Thomas Partey – what an unbelievable piece of business that could prove, as the Ghanaian was outstanding for Atletico Madrid – Arteta has got a lot of quality to choose from.

"Arsenal, really, should be looking at the top four.”
