Latest Arsenal transfer rumours: Gunners eye Tierney alternative, Saliba deal close

The transfer window open and Arsenal have already started making moves to strengthen their squad.

Unai Emery has a challenging rebuild ahead, with the departures of Danny Welbeck, Petr Cech, Aaron Ramsey and Stephan Lichtsteiner leaving the squad in need of reinforcements.

Arsenal completed the deal to bring Gabriel Martinelli this week, and are thought to be looking for a central defender, a midfielder and a winger this summer, so who will arrive at the Emirates in the next few months? Here's a look at the latest Arsenal transfer rumours:

Marcelo

Real Madrid left-back Marcelo has reportedly asked to leave the club following 13 seasons in La Liga.

The 31-year-old’s place is under threat after Real confirmed the signing of Ferland Mendy from Lyon for £47m.

According to  Sport , Marcelo wants to leave this summer, and has received several offers, with Arsenal among the teams to have registered their interest.

The defender’s representatives are currently negotiating with club president Florentino Perez about an exit, with PSG, Juventus and Milan also all reportedly considering a bid for the Brazilian star.

William Saliba

Saint Etienne club president Roland Romeyer says William Saliba will remain at the club for next season once Arsenal agree a deal for the centre back.

The Gunners are thought to be closing in on the young French defender, but Romeyer has confirmed that the 18-year-old will return on loan.

Fagner

Arsenal have reportedly been told by potential sporting director Edu to make a move for Brazil defender Fagner.

With Stephan Lichtsteiner leaving the club this summer and Carl Jenkinson widely expected to follow him, the Gunners only have two players capable of playing right-back in Hector Bellerin and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

With Bellerin not yet back from injury and Maitland-Niles not a true recognised right-back, Fox Sports Radio Brasil report that Edu has suggested Arsenal should move for Fagner.

The 30-year-old currently plays for Corinthians in Brazil, and could be available at a cheaper price than some alternatives rumoured to be of interest to Unai Emery.

Fagner has been at Corinthians for four years, after stints in Europe with PSV Eindhoven and Wolfsburg.

Malcom

According to the Mirror, Arsenal have been offered Barcelona’s Malcom - but the Gunners would prefer to focus on Wilfried Zaha.

Brazilian Malcom only moved to Spain last summer, having been linked with switches from Bordeaux to both the Gunners and north London rivals Tottenham.

The winger has looked set to join Roma and travelled to the Italian capital to put the final touches on a switch to the Stadio Olimpico - only to pull out at the last moment when a surprise big-money offer from Catalunya arrived.

Kieran Tierney

Kieran Tierney is set to leave Celtic this summer with both Arsenal and Napoli linked to the left-back, but a move to the Premier League side is apparently more likely.

According to  CalcioNapoli24 , a source close to Tierney has admitted that Napoli’s interest in the defender is genuine.

However, they concede that a move to Arsenal is far more likely at this stage, with the Gunners other outlets reporting that the Gunners are close to agreeing a deal for the 22-year-old.

Ismaila Sarr

Arsenal are reportedly still interested in Rennes winger Ismaila Sarr as a potential alternative to Wilfried Zaha this summer.

The 21-year-old is rated at around £35m, according to  Sky Sports , though Watford and Roma are both reportedly interested in the Senegal international.

The Gunners had a £40m bid rejected for Crystal Palace star Zaha last month, and if they cannot secure his signature before the end of the window, they could make a move for Sarr.
