Latest Arsenal transfer rumours: Atletico Madrid line up Partey successor, Rabiot battle

Despite the 2019/20 Premier League season not being completed yet, clubs are already planning for the next campaign.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is preparing for his first summer transfer window in charge at the Emirates Stadium, and already faces several difficult decisions.

Arteta will no doubt be looking to bring in players who fit his philosophy, and able to take the Gunners to the next level.

With that in mind, here are the latest rumours from the Emirates Stadium.

Partey time at Arsenal

Arsenal have received a boost in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.

According to the Daily Express, the Spanish giants have lined up his successor in the shape of Getafe’s Mauro Arambarri.

The Uruguayan is expected to cost Atletico £18 million, which would then pave the way for Ghanaian international Partey to move to the Emirates.

But Atletico manager Diego Simeone apparently wants to keep the defensive midfielder and has offered him a new contract until 2025.

His current exit clause is around £45million.

Pepe “needs to do more,” says Aliadiere

Former Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere has questioned the club’s decision to spend £72 million on Nicolas Pepe.

Arsenal paid the club-record fee to French side Lille last summer, but Pepe has failed to live up to expectations in North London.

“I saw what he did with Lille last season, so I am not denying his talent,” Frenchman Aliadiere told Goal.

“What I’m seeing, though, is the most expensive player in Arsenal’s history and even if you don’t want to think about money, that fact is that money is, unfortunately, a big thing in football.

“When you spend that much money on a player, you expect more goals and you expect more assists.”

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport labelled Pepe as one of Europe’s four biggest flops of the season, although Aliadiere said that was an unfair assessment.

Arsenal in battle with Everton for Rabiot

Arsenal are fighting it out with Everton in a bid to land Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to French publication Le 10 Sport.

Rabiot only joined Juventus last summer, but has struggled to hold down a regular starting position.

And it is believed that Arsenal have entered negotiations for the French international.

Everton, however, also want to sign the 25-year-old, who has been capped six times for his country, with Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti reportedly keen on linking up with Rabiot, whom he managed at Paris Saint-Germain.

Juve will apparently sell Rabiot for £27million in a bid to raise funds to re-sign Paul Pogba from Manchester United.
