Latest Arsenal transfer rumours: Arteta's plan for Ozil, Xhaka eyed by Hertha Berlin

Arsenal's hunt for Unai Emery's successor is over, with Mikel Arteta appointed as the club's new head coach on a three-and-a-half-year deal on Friday.

Now, all eyes will turn towards the January transfer window and the business that could be completed by the Spaniard, who is tipped to overhaul the club and take Arsenal in a new direction.

As such, plenty of rumours and gossip are already floating around and we have gathered some of the latest snippets below.

Arteta reveals his Ozil plan

Mikel Arteta has effectively ruled out a January exit from Arsenal in January for Mesut Ozil, in comments made at a press conference on Friday as he was unveiled as the new head coach.

The German World Cup winner has been heavily tipped for a move to the MLS or to join Turkish side Fenerbache but Arteta took the opportunity to identify the importance of someone he played alongside previously.

"He's a massive player for this football club. I want to understand how they’re feeling and what they need. He’s a massive player.

"I worked with him and I know when he ticks what he can bring to the team. My job is to get the best out of him."

Hertha Berlin target Granit Xhaka

Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin are eyeing a move for former Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka in January, according to Sky Sports.

Head coach Jurgen Klinsmann is seeking an experienced holding midfielder to add to his squad and the Switzerland international is a target following his fall-out with the fans in North London.

Reports from Germany state Hertha Berlin, currently in mid-table, are preparing a 'financially sensible package' that they hope will persuade both Xhaka and Arsenal to agree a deal.

Mikel Arteta's arrival could be decisive in the 27-year-old's future, as he may hand Xhaka a new lease of life or decide he wants to move in another direction.

Arsenal unhappy with Torreira bid

Not a day has gone by recently without Lucas Torreira's name in the gossip column, with Napoli continuing to chase the Uruguayan, and the latest reports state Arsenal are not impressed.

According to CalcioMercato , Napoli's proposal of €3m for a loan and a further €27m to make the move permanent in the summer has not sat well with the Gunners.

It is added that Arsenal are waiting to see where Torreira currently stands and, like Xhaka, the arrival of Arteta could be decisive to what happens to the former Udinese man.

Torreira is a fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium but fell out of favour under Unai Emery, regularly being utilised off the bench or in a more unnatural position.
