Latest Arsenal transfer rumours: Arteta and Edu 'disagreed' on summer deal, Aouar twist

Arsenal suffered their second successive Premier League defeat on Sunday evening as they were beaten 1-0 by Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium.

With the contest appearing set to end in a goalless draw, Jamie Vardy stepped off the bench to net the winner for the Foxes 10 minutes from time, leaving Gunners head coach Mikel Arteta to reflect on a second straight Premier League defeat, with Manchester City having got the better of his side by the same scoreline just over a week ago.

The defeat to Leicester did feature a first Premier League start for the Gunners' stand-out summer signing, Thomas Partey, who had also started the Europa League win over Rapid Wien on Thursday.

With the Gunners having now gone two Premier League games without scoring, concerns may start to creep in about their inability to find the net, potentially raising questions about where they may need to strengthen by the time the January window opens.

With that in mind, here is a close look at all the very latest Arsenal transfer news and rumours.

Arteta denied top target

Arsenal technical director Edu made the decision to prioritise a summer transfer for Atletico Madrid midfield enforcer Partey over Lyon's Houssem Aouar, a report by French newspaper L'Equipe.

The Gunners were heavily linked with both central midfielders throughout the transfer window and in the end landed Partey, triggering the £45million release clause in his Atletico contract.

However, it is claimed that Arteta favoured a move for Aouar, with Edu preferring a move for Partey. In the end, it is claimed that the club hierarchy sided with Edu and favoured a swoop for Partey.

Aouar, though, remains on the Gunners' radar, with the club keen to add a more attack-minded threat to their central-midfield options as soon as possible.

Gunners dealt Umtiti blow

Arsenal's hopes of one day adding Barcelona centre-back Samuel Umtiti to their ranks have taken a blow, with the Frenchman admitting that the only club he ever sees himself playing for is the La Liga giants.

Prior to landing Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes back in August, the Gunners were closely linked with landing Umtiti, with Arteta determined to strengthen his defensive options.

Though a move for Umtiti is something that Arsenal may never consider again in the future, the Frenchman has seemingly made it clear that he would not be interested in a switch to north London anyway.

"I don’t see myself in a club other than Barcelona," he told Canal Football Club. "I have been clear with everyone on this issue.”

Juventus lead Aouar pursuit

Italian media outlet Tuttosport claim that Juventus have jumped into pole position in the race to sign French midfield ace Aouar in January.

The Lyon midfielder was closely linked with the Serie A club, as well as Arsenal, throughout the summer transfer window, but neither club was able to lure him away from the Ligue 1 outfit.

But despite the window having closed for business earlier this month, Aouar remains a hot topic of conversation, with Arsenal still keen to add another central-midfielder to their ranks.

But reports in Italy claim that Juventus now lead the chase, placing a sense of pressure on the Gunners' shoulders if they are to be able to win the race for his signature.

If Arsenal are to stand any chance of adding the 22-year-old to their ranks then they will have to cut their cloth to be able to fund a deal.
