Latest Arsenal transfer rumours: Alexandre Lacazette bid, 'next Ozil' eyed, William Saliba claim

Arsenal’s start to the 2020/21 season has been very mixed, and after a 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa going into the international break, transfer rumours could be the exact medicine supporters require.

For the most part, the Gunners have shown their continued improvement under Mikel Arteta, but have suffered a few worrying defeats recently in the Premier League.

However, with the January transfer window on the horizon, there is no need to feel down at the Emirates Stadium. In light of this, we bring you the latest transfer stories and gossip on Arsenal.

Gunners rejected Lacazette bid

Arsenal rejected a 'substantial' bid for Alexandre Lacazette from AS Roma in the summer transfer window, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.

Lacazette has scored three times in seven Premier League appearances for the Gunners so far this season, but was the subject of a late bid from the Serie A giants over the summer.

Speaking on the Tifo Podcast's YouTube channel, Ornstein said: "Arsenal did receive a substantial offer towards the end of the transfer window just gone from Roma for Lacazette. It fell below their valuation of him, and so he stayed put."

'Next Ozil' lined up

Arsenal are preparing a bid to sign Lille midfielder Yusuf Yazici, who has been likened to Mesut Ozil, according to the Daily Mail.

Ozil was omitted from both the Premier League and the Europa League squads this season and his future at the Emirates looks to be over. However, according to the aforementioned report, the Gunners want to sign someone of similar ilk to the German playmaker.

Yazici has scored seven goals in eight games for Lille so far this season, with six of those strikes coming in the Europa League.

Saliba tipped to leave on loan

Arsenal defender William Saliba has been tipped to leave the club on loan by former Gunners' striker Kevin Campbell.

Campbell believes Saliba could really benefit with some first-team football elsewhere at the moment as he settles into life in England.

Speaking to Football Insider, the ex-Everton and Arsenal forward said: "He (Arteta) needs to look at Saliba and if there is an opportunity to incorporate him in a matchday squad, he has got to do that. If Arteta feels that he needs to get out on loan and communicate and learn a bit more, that is what he has to do.

"Mikel Arteta will make the right decision. He (Saliba) is a baby of the game. He has a lot of time ahead of him and as we are seeing Mikel Arteta cannot really take risks with an untried player right now."
