Latest Arsenal transfer rumours: £25.5m Demiral blow, Jerome Boateng on a free

Mikel Arteta's arrival was marked by a splendid performance against Manchester United last weekend, securing the Spaniard his first win since taking the reigns as manager.

Next on the cards for Arsenal is an FA Cup third-round tie against Championship promotion-chasers Leeds United on Monday but Arteta won't have his feet up this weekend.

The January transfer window is open for business and Arsenal's need to secure new additions has been strengthened following Calum Chambers' season-ending injury.

As a result, plenty of defensive moves are being muted but they are not the only transfer rumours floating around and we've gathered some of the latest pieces of gossip below.

Leicester move for Demiral

Juventus have rejected a bid of more than €30million from Leicester for defender Merih Demiral, according to  Sky in Italy .  Arsenal have been linked with the Turkish defender, but it seems that the Foxes have made the first move.

The report also claims that Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund have also seen an offer for the defender knocked back. Meanwhile, Leicester are reportedly eyeing a loan bid for Demiral.

Sky Sports News  state that Leicester’s recruitment team have spoken to Caglar Soyuncu about his countryman’s qualities after Harry Maguire’s move to Manchester United in the summer.

Leicester would prefer to see how Demiral would adjust to the Premier League before committing to a large deal.

Rabiot offered for Pogba

Juventus will reportedly offer Adrien Rabiot in a player-plus-cash deal for Manchester United star Paul Pogba.

Rabiot has been linked with Spurs and Arsenal in the run up to the January transfer window, with Mikel Arteta said to be keen on the 24-year-old.

But Juve may have other plans for the midfielder they signed on a free transfer from PSG in the summer, with the  Sun  reporting that Juve would offer Rabiot (valued at around £25m) plus around £60m in cash for Pogba.

However,  Goal  state that the Serie A side have “no intention” of allowing Rabiot to leave in January, and will be giving the 24-year-old a larger role in the second half of the season.

Juve are said to be happy with the progress Rabiot has made since moving to Serie A in the summer, despite him not being a regular starter in Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Attention switched to Boateng

Arsenal have reportedly switched their defensive targets for the January transfer window due to costs, with the Gunners wanting to bring in a centre-back after Calum Chambers suffered a season-ending ACL injury.

Dayot Upamecano was believed to be their top target, but RB Leipzig are said to be valuing their young star at around £70million.

As such, Arsenal will now be moving onto other targets, and Bild state that they will make a move for Bayern Munich centre-back Jerome Boateng.

The Bundesliga giants are willing to allow the 31-year-old to leave on a free transfer in January to ensure that they can get him off the wage bill, with Arsenal said to be tempted to make a move for the World Cup winner.
