Latest Arsenal transfer rumours: £14m deal, Wilfried Zaha tipped to sign, Lamptey development

Arsenal have been one of the more active Premier League clubs in the January transfer window so far.

As was the case in what turned out to be a decent summer for Gunners manager Mikel Arteta as he was able to bolster his first-team squad with four new faces - as well as the return of Dani Ceballos on another season-long loan deal from Real Madrid.

Arsenal spent just over £70m on four major additions as they signed Thomas Partey, Gabriel Magalhaes, Alex Runarsson, and Willian.

There has been a new arrival this month in the shape of Omar Rekik from Hertha Berlin but he's one for the future as the focus so far has been to trim the first-team squad.

Matt Macey, Sead Kolasinac and William Saliba have all left the Emirates Stadium already - with the latter pair joining Schalke and Nice on loan respectively for the remainder of the season.

There's plenty of other speculation surrounding potential incomings and outgoings for Arteta's side, including the expected exit of Mesut Ozil.

With all this being said, here are the latest Arsenal-related transfer rumours and stories.

£14.2m Neto deal

Arsenal remain interested in signing Barcelona goalkeeper Neto.

The Gunners are on the market for a back-up stopper to Bernd Leno having not been convinced by Alex Runarsson's performances following his arrival last summer.

According to reports in Spain, the only way Arsenal can sign Neto is if they tempt the La Liga giants with a permanent offer.

As per Sport Witness, the Gunners would likely have to pay more than €16m (£14.2m) to sign the keeper as Barcelona need to be able to record a profit on their accounts

With that said, Barca boss Ronald Koeman has already insisted that Neto is too important to let go, despite Marc-Andre ter Stegen being his first-choice goalkeeper.

"It's true that his representative has asked the club for an exit and we have said no because he is an important goalkeeper for us and we want to be very well covered at each position," the former Everton and Southampton manager said.

Zaha tipped to sign

Wilfried Zaha is being tipped to finally seal a dream move to Arsenal.

But by some Gunners supporters.

After being a surprise omission from Palace's starting XI against Man City, coupled with Mesut Ozil's imminent transfer to Fenerbahce that will free up some space on the wage bill, there's a theory that Zaha could finally get his dream move.

There was talk of the Ivory Coast winger joining in the summer of 2019, but as revealed by former Arsenal head coach Unai Emery, the club opted to splash the cash on Nicolas Pepe.

"I usually want to sign first the players I know there," Emery exclusively told football.london. "When we played against Crystal Palace, Zaha showed he was a very good player.

Arsenal unlikely to be put off by Lamptey's new deal

Despite only joining Brighton and Hove Albion from Chelsea 12 months ago, Tariq Lamptey recently agreed a fresh four-and-a-half-year deal worth £40,000 per week as a reward for his impressive rise.

That has ended any chance of Lamptey departing the Amex Stadium this month.

However, The Athletic are reporting that this development is unlikely to discourage the clubs who were keen on recruiting him, as his suitors were all aware of the situation.

Arsenal along with Everton and Manchester City are among the 20-year-old’s domestic admirers and he was heavily linked with Bayern Munich last summer.

In addition, the report states that Brighton tend not to stand in the way of players seeking to move elsewhere if a suitable offer arrives and it is expected their asking price for Lamptey will be similar under the improved terms as it was previously.

That could be a boost for Arsenal who have reportedly earmarked Lamptey as a long-term replacement for Hector Bellerin.
