Latest Arsenal transfer news: £42m release clause activated, Man City beat Gunners to Brazil ace

Arsenal extended their winning streak following the Premier League's winter break to three matches in all competitions after edging past Everton in a 3-2 win at the Emirates Stadium.

After smashing four past Newcastle United and seeing off Olympiacos in Athens, Arsenal's push for Champions League football remained intact after the win against the Toffees.

There's not time to rest though as the second leg against Olympiacos and an FA Cup tie against Portsmouth, while attention will also be cast towards the summer transfer window.

As such, plenty of rumours are already floating around and we have gathered some of the latest snippets regarding the Gunners below.

Mikel Arteta praises his team after playing three games in seven days

£42m Thomas Partey

Arsenal are ready to activate the €50m (£42million) release clause of Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey when the summer window opens, according to Libertad Digital.

The Ghana international has been consistently linked with a move from the Spanish capital to the Emirates Stadium, including during the recent January transfer window.

However, Atletico are not keen on losing their influential midfielder and are keen to secure him to new terms - but the fact that his release clause is a relatively low figure of £42m means there are some doubts.

For his part though, Partey is also keen to stay at the club, saying: "Atletico is my home, the club that gave everything, where I want to be. My agent is talking to the club about the renovation. I hope everything goes well."

Man City win Couto chase

Manchester City are poised to pip Arsenal in the hunt to the services of Brazilian starlet Yan Couto for a fee of just £5m, according to Gazeta do Povo via the Daily Mail.

The full-back, who currently plies his trade with Coritiba, is said to be on his way to joining Pep Guardiola's side in the summer when he turns 18.

He starred for Brazil's U17 side last season, as they won the World Cup on home soil, and has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium as a long-term replacement for Hector Bellerin.

However, City are said to be set to win the race for the teenager, who has also been eyed by Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.

Arsenal join hunt for David

Arsenal have joined a wealth of clubs in the hunt for Gent star Jonathan David after his remarkable run of form, HLN via Sport Witness reports.

The 20-year-old Canada international has caught the eye, scoring nine goals in his last nine league matches - including a hat-trick in his side's 4-1 victory over STVV on Sunday.

Those performances would have likely increased his asking price but the Belgian side are determined not to sell despite the rising interest in his services.

That is because they don't need to, as the youngster is currently tied down with the club until 2023.
