Late night trains between Edinburgh and Glasgow delayed after police called to disturbance on carriage

A disturbance involving several passengers led to delays for trains between Edinburgh and Glasgow last night.

Scotrail said the trouble took place on the 11.15pm service between Waverley and Glasgow Queen Street stations.

As the train had to stop at Linlithgow to wait for British Transport Police to arrive, several other services were affected.

A Glasgow city councillor tweeted about problems she experienced on her journey between the two cities last night.

Eva Murray said: "Someone has pushed a 'passenger alarm' on our train resulting in the conductor now having to manually check every single door on an 8 carriage train at every stop - we reckon it’ll add 10 minutes per stop on to our journey."

She added: "Update: British Transport Police have arrived due to a number of people reporting incidents in one of the carriages - meanwhile our carriage has decided to have an ABBA singalong..."

Scotrail announced the issues had been cleared on Thursday morning.

The rail operator said: "Disruption caused by passengers causing a disturbance on a train earlier between Haymarket and Linlithgow has now ended.

"Services between Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street via Falkirk High are no longer affected by this problem."
