Late night prowler caught on CCTV trying door handle in Scots neighbourhood

A masked prowler has been caught on camera creeping around a Scots neighbourhood and trying a front door in the middle of the night.

The frightening footage, caught via a Ring doorbell camera, shows the man with his hood up, slowly approaching the property in Lochend Gardens, Edinburgh, at 4:30am this morning. He is then seen fumbling with the door handle, attempting to open the front door.

Then he hides his body behind a wall, as his arm pulls down on the handle, but fortunately he could not open the locked door. Seemingly unfazed by the front porch light illuminating his face, the crook persists with his attempts to try his luck.

Sharing the footage in a local Facebook group, the resident alerted others living in the area of the potential threat from the unknown figure, reports Edinburgh Live.

They added: "It's something I noticed on the Ring doorbell via a notification in the morning. Luckily the door was locked and we didn't have to deal with much worse.

"I called 101 this morning just to let them know that I have footage of someone trying my door in case they have reports of a burglary nearby.

"My husband's work van was broken into a few years ago but other than that we've had no similar incidents like this."

After being unsuccessful in gaining illegal entry to the property, the man moves on, although it is unclear if he targeted other houses in the area earlier on Thursday evening.

Police Scotland has been approached for comment.
