Late night patrols in two Liverpool areas to tackle 'absolute nuisance'

Police and council patrols are taking place this weekend in two parts of south Liverpool after complaints about student parties in the area.

Liverpool Council confirmed yesterday evening that their environmental health and safer and stronger communities teams will be on patrol with Merseyside Police late at night to address issues with anti-social behaviour in Picton and Wavertree.

Multiples parts of the south of the city have been the focus of growing anger among long term residents about house parties that are believed to be being held by students.

Police carried out patrols earlier this week that saw 17 student houses visited by officers checking for Covid breaches and loud parties.

In a video posted to the council's Twitter feed, Ray Mensah, anti-social behaviour coordinator for private sector housing, said visits were taking place throughout the weekend and patrols would take place at night to check for issues in both areas.

Mr Mensah said: "We'd say to students that, seriously, you need to be aware of where you're living.

"You're living in residential area, there are people who have lived here for such a long time that it really is an absolute nuisance to them.

"We will address any complaints, any issues, either through private sector housing, safer stronger communities or environmental noise [teams] and the police as well.

"We are all working in partnership, we all know what's going on."

Mr Mensah said both the council and police recognised there was mounting frustration among some residents and encouraged anyone with a concern to gather as much information about problems they are having as possible.

He said: "What we need is as much information as possible - the time and date, the number of the property, even if you know the landlord yourself, let us know.

"If you know any of the occupants of the property let us know because that's all relevant information for us."
