Late leveller disappointment but Kinnoull hope to kick on from Oakley draw

Kinnoull’s draw away at Oakley United felt like a defeat but midfielder Shaun Simpson was taking the positives.

The Perth men appeared to have the three points wrapped up in Fife as the game entered its closing stages.

Simpson opened the scoring with 77 minutes on the clock in the Conference B fixture before the hosts struck late on.

A Craig Martin penalty with only three minutes remaining resulted in a 1-1 draw.

“The boys really seemed up for it before the game and we would have loved to have bounced back with a win,” said Simpson.

“And especially after two poor performances but I guess that’s how football goes.

“We thought we would see it out but again just a couple of mistakes everywhere cost us.  It most definitely felt like a defeat but an improvement from the past games.

“The team played well compared to the recent couple of games but there are still more improvements to be made

“There were many positives and hopefully we crack on from here and build on it.”

Kinnoull sit ninth in the Conference B with a record of two wins, two defeats and a draw from their five matches.

Simpson added: “It’s not been the best of starts but it’s still early.

“I have faith in the boys to pull us through and get us back on track and turn it around.”
