Late Late Toy Show viewers complain over issues with RTE Player - what to do if it stops working

A number of Twitter users have been complaining about the RTE Player tonight.

The Late Late Toy Show is currently live, with many watching via the national broadcaster's streaming service.

But a lot of people are experiencing technical issues, and have taken to social media to outline the problems.

One user said: "Come on RTE player, don’t do this to me now."

While another blasted: "Another year of wrestling with the godforsaken tremulous and delicate RTÉ player. Cmon t'f**K."

A third raged: "I *STILL* have never seen the #LateLateToyShow live outside Ireland.

"The RTE Player, consistently freezing and crashing and underdelivering..."

Ahead of tonight's show, the Irish Mirror contacted RTE to see if any additional improvements, resources, and manpower hours have been allocated to the digital team that work on the RTE Player to provide the best experience possible.

An RTE spokesperson said: "There have been incremental improvements to the RTÉ Player website and apps throughout 2020 in order to ensure our audience, wherever they are in the world, has the best experience.

"A multi-disciplinary team will be working on Friday night to deliver the Late Late Toy Show live stream from RTÉ One and Irish Sign Language Late Late Toy Show from RTÉ News as well as clips of top moments and highlights throughout the night."

Aside from this, RTE also provided some additional technical information to ensure that those watching the show via the RTE Player will be able to do so with minimum interruptions.

To begin with, The Late Late Toy Show is available to stream live and on-demand for free worldwide. Viewers will need a minimum of 5MBps internet connection, and a computer, mobile device or TV that's compatible with their service.

The broadcaster has also listed the following additional steps:

  • Check your device is compatible
  • You can watch on any modern browser on your computer (Windows, Mac)
  • Download the RTÉ Player app from your app store by searching 'RTÉ Player'.
  • Ensure you are running an up-to-date version of iOS and Android minimum iOS 9.0 and Android 5.0
  • Make sure you have the latest version of the RTÉ Player app on your smartphone
  • If your Android device and app are up to date and your connection is working OK but you are experiencing issues then you may have to try resetting the app on your device.
