Late Late Toy Show appeal raises staggering €5.2million for charity

The Late Late Toy Show appeal has raised a staggering €5.2million.

The appeal, which replaced the usual competition this year, will go to a number of Irish charities.

Host Ryan Tubridy told how they had hoped to raise a few hundred thousands, and said the massive surge in donations "showed the incredible generosity, kindness and magic" of the Irish people.

Viewers were absolutely loving this year's addition of the iconic programme, with many heaping praise on organisers for keeping the show on the road during the pandemic.

Ryan Tubridy has walked the public through a Late Late Toy Show set that's 'full of dreams' (RTE)

And earlier, Tubs opened up about how the Toy Show almost didn't go ahead.

He previously told the Irish Mirror: “What a peculiar and bizarre road to a Toy Show. This was the Toy Show that nearly didn’t happen.

“And only for the grit and determination and diligence and an absolute need to keep the show on the road for the Irish children at home and abroad we wouldn’t be here today talking.

“But we weren’t having any of it, we just had to keep going.

“We had a different theme picked, and then March happened. We had a different plan ready to go and then lockdown two happened.

“We have met speed bump after speed bump and we keep climbing over them to get to Friday night.

“So this show is about determination and resilience and reflects in those words what Irish people have been about all year."
