Late Late Toy Show appeal passes €5m mark as donations pour in to help vulnerable kids

The Late Late Toy Show appeal has passed the €5,000,000 mark as donations continue to pour in to help vulnerable children.

Funds raised through the RTÉ Toy Show Appeal will go to support a range of children’s charities around Ireland.

Last year, over €6.5million was raised by generous members of the public and this year's appeal looks set to smash by that target.

As of 4.15pm on Saturday afternoon, the total stood at €5,045,926.

Revolut co-founder Vlad Yatsenko has donated €100,000 and pledged to match any further donations this weekend via the Revolut App up to €1 million.

The brilliant gesture comes after issues with the app on Friday as millions of people attempted to donate to the fund during the RTE spectacular.

Taking to Twitter this morning, Mr Yatsenko hailed the incredible reaction of the Irish public.

He said: "What an incredible support RevolutApp customers gave to a worthy charity RTELateLateShow! Granted, there were some challenges at the peak of the live campaign. So, I've personally donated €100K, and will also match any further donations this weekend via RevolutApp up to €1M."

The app had struggled for a while on Black Friday, with customers having problems signing in, making card payments, topping up their bank cards or making money transfers.

Viewers can continue to donate to Irish charities at www.rte.ie/toyshowappeal and via the 'donations' tab on the Revolut app.

Those who tuned into Friday's Toy Show have described one young guest as the 'winner of the show,' after he told Ryan about his recent battle with cancer.

Finn Ryan told the host about the joy playing with Lego used to bring him while being treated for his cancer in hospital.

He then got to ring the bell to support those still struggling with the disease.
