Late Late Show viewers praise Davy Fitzgerald after courageous appearance on show

Waterford Hurling manager Davy Fitzgerlad was singled out for praise following his appearance on the Late Late Show on RTE 1 this evening.

Fitzgerald has experienced a rollercoaster of emotions over the last 12 months as he became a father again at the age of 51 and got back into management with Waterford.

Fitzgerald spoke openly about mental health and the pressures on young people, especially men, and the negative impacts that social media and the internet can have on individuals. He also spoke about his upcoming series "Davy's toughest team" where he works with disadvantaged young men to overcome challenges and obstacles in their way. Fitzgerald referenced conversations around suicide and depression during the series and urged anybody with such feelings to talk and seek help.

Following his appearance viewers took to social media to applaud the Clare Hurling legend on his work and words.

One Twitter user commented, "Davy Fitzgerald does amazing work with troubled kids. He's a great communicator and genuinely cares abt their wellbeing. Well done Davy, keep up the great work".

Another wrote, "Davy Fitzgerald is an absolute gem. Anything that can be done to get young lads to talk openly about mental health, drugs & depression is a worthwhile initiative. We need to listen & encourage lads to talk. #latelate

Fitzgerald also commented on the recent spate of attacks on GAA referees and advocated for lifetime bans for anybody found guilty of such offences. Another twitter user quoted some of his comments from the show and posted them afterwards, "Lifetime ban for physical altercation with a referee" "Diving can't be part of our game" "Girls deserve to get more support than they're getting" "My favourite word in life is hope" Davy Fitzgerald spoke really well on the Late Late Show this evening."

Davy Fitzgerald concluded the interview by saying, "my favourite word in life is hope, no matter what, we all need to have a bit of that. Talking is great'.
