Late Late Show raises over €2.5m as Jedward shave their quiffs for charity

More than €2.5m was raised for the Irish Cancer Society thanks to a special Late Late Show to mark Daffodil Day.

Pop twins Jedward, 29, shaved their quiffs live on air, paying tribute to their late mum Susanna who died of cancer in 2019.

John told host Ryan Tubridy: “Everyone goes through cancer and has stories to tell. It’s heartbreaking to hear the stories and see what people go through.” Joking their freshly shaven heads are the beginning of a new era for The X Factor stars, Edward said: “This is the grown-up Jedward.”

Viewers were left in tears as guests including Westlife’s Shane Filan, 41, talked about how his parents died from cancer just 10 months apart. His mum was very sick when Westlife played Croke Park in 2019, but she still insisted on going to see him at the gig.

He added: “She was quite ill at the time.”

The show also featured Irish Cancer Society CEO Averil Power who lost her dad to cancer.

Cavan GAA footballer Oisin Kiernan talked with Ryan about the importance of getting lumps checked.
