Late goal costs Dalbeattie Star Lowland League point against Spartans

A late goal cost Dalbeattie Star a deserved point against Spartans on Saturday.

The game looked to be heading for a 1-1 draw only for sub Cameron Dawson to score a late goal for the visitors at Islecroft.

Spartans had led at the break as the Star defence failed to deal with a long ball and Aaron Murrell nipped in to fire past Vinnie Parker.

The equaliser arrived just before the hour mark, Dean Brotherston playing in Lewis Sloan who found the net despite the best efforts of goalie Blair Carswell.

Star pushed for a winner, Carswell denying Brotherston before Murrell sent a lob just wide of the home goal.

However, five minutes from the end the visitors snatched all three points as Dawson slammed a shot past Parker.

The result leaves Star in 12th place in the Lowland League with nearly half their games played.

They have a free weekend on Saturday with their next game at home to Cumbernauld Colts on Saturday, November 16.
