What’s new: Yoozoo Games Co. Ltd. (002174.SZ) has named the former wife of its founder as its new chairman, two months after the poisoning death, allegedly by a colleague, of her ex-husband and former chairman Lin Qi.
The appointment of Xu Fenfen was disclosed by Yoozoo in a statement to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange on Wednesday. Xu Fenfen will take over for Xu Bin, who was named as acting chairman following Lin’s death on Dec. 25.
Xu Fenfen was previously a vice president and director of Yoozoo’s Singapore subsidiary, Yoozoo Singapore Pte. Ltd., from 2015 to 2020, according to the statement.
Why it matters: Lin’s poisoning has captivated China for the last two months, partly due to the nature of the death and also because the main suspect is one of his colleagues.
Caixin previously reported that the main suspect, Xu Yao, was a France- and U.S.-educated lawyer who may have been inspired by the U.S. TV series “Breaking Bad.” Even before the murder, Yoozoo was well known in China due to its holding of the film rights for the wildly popular local science fiction series “The Three-Body Problem.”
Xu Fenfen and Lin had three children who were set to receive Lin’s controlling stake in the company following his death. But since all three are minors, Xu Fenfen is their legal guardian and thus will effectively control the company until they reach legal adulthood.
