June 03--Think of it as Sid Caesar's last laugh. The longtime Beverly Hills home of the late comic actor and writer has sold for $5.5 million -- $1.25 million above its asking price.
The sprawling Midcentury-style house, built in 1962, has seen its share of Hollywood hobnobbing.
Set beside a large motor court on three-quarters of an acre, the house features floor-to-ceiling windows that take in vistas of the surrounding canyons. Windows flanking the front door bring in views from the back of the house, which opens to a swimming pool and patio area.
The 4,667 square feet of living space includes a living room, a family room, a bar, a dining area, an island kitchen, four bedrooms and a bonus room.
In one of the five bathrooms an unusual two-sided bathtub separates dual bathroom areas.
Caesar, who died last year at 91, was known for his satires and parodies. The sketch comic made his mark with television audiences starting in the early 1950s with such variety shows as "Your Show of Shows," "Caesar's Hour" and "Sid Caesar Invites You."
His big-screen credits include the "Grease" movies and the 1963 classic "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World." He also sang, played the saxophone and worked in several orchestras.
