Late blunder costs Livingston as they fall to late defeat against Aberdeen

A Max Stryjek fumble four minutes into injury-time cost Livingston a share of the spoils as they went down 2-1 at home to Aberdeen.

Bruce Anderson netted against his former club just after the half-hour mark to give the Lions the lead, but they were pegged back just two minutes into the second half as Teddy Jenks fizzed an unstoppable effort home from 20 yards.

Livingston's first home league clash in front of fans since March 2020 appeared to be heading for honours even before Jack MacKenzie fired a seemingly harmless effort on goal four minutes into injury-time that slipped through the hands of the Lions keeper.

A depleted home side went into the game missing eight players which limited them to just five substitutes while Aberdeen made a slew of changes - six in total - from their UEFA Conference League first leg clash in Iceland against Breidablik on Thursday.

Livingston had the game's first chance when James Penrice did well in limited space down the left to tee up Scott Pittman, but the midfielder could only poke his effort wide just three minutes in.

At the other end, Aberdeen almost took full advantage slack play from the hosts as they stole possession before Ryan Hedges dangerously cut inside onto his right but his drive went inches over Stryjek's bar.

Anderson would no doubt have been desperate to make a statement against his former team and his first sniff at goal arrived just before the half-hour mark. A wonderful pass from Craig Sibbald sent the striker through but former Lion Declan Gallagher applied enough pressure to ensure Anderson's effort was tamely dragged wide.

Five minutes later, he had his goal. Sibbald's corner-kick was half-cleared by Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and headed back into the area by Penrice. Anderson rose to flick home beyond the onrushing Lewis for his first league goal in Livi colours.

Moments later he almost went from finisher to provider as he teed up Pittman, but his poor effort from eight yards was hit straight at Lewis when it would surely have been a goal had it been placed anywhere else.

Following a poor first half, Aberdeen responded immediately after the break as a half-clearance from Jackson Longridge defence saw Teddy Jenks rattle the ball home first time from 20 yards for the equaliser.

Both sides then had goal-line clearances to thank for staying on level terms as Sibbald came to Livi's rescue before Hedges rescued the Dons after Ayo Obileye got on the end of an Alan Forrest corner.

As the heavens began to open, both sides would bring on strikers as Jack Hamilton was introduced for Livi with Christian Ramirez coming on for the Dons. The Lions youngster would drag an effort wide as the hosts launched a counter-attack moments after his introduction.

Both sides flung everything at an attempt to grab all three points but chances in the latter stages were at a premium. Lewis did well to parry Jason Holt's cutback across goal after he got in behind the Aberdeen defence, while at the other end Livi defended valiantly and repelled everything thrown at them to seemingly earn a draw before Stryjek's late fumble.
