DALLAS _ What had the making of a dramatic comeback victory turned into another excruciating loss for the Blues as Dallas scored three late goals to defeat St. Louis, 4-2, Friday at American Airlines Center.
After a two-week stretch in which goals were tough to come by, the Blues scored twice in 65 seconds in the third period. First Valdimir Tarasenko beat St. Louisan Ben Bishop to the glove side with a wrist shot from left wing at the 3:46 mark of the period.
Then at 4:31 of the third, rookie Tage Thompson scored his second goal in five games since being recalled from San Antonio. He beat Bishop stick side with a quick wrist shot from 41 feet that clanged in off the post.
Those goals came after the Blues lost goalie Jake Allen to the concussion protocol for about 10 minutes after a collision involving Colton Parayko and Dallas' Tyler Pitlick knocked Allen down.
But the Blues' 2-1 lead evaporated on a goal by Jamie Benn at 15:10 after Allen returned. Allen got knocked to the ice again on a collision in front of the net. A pair of Alexander Radulov goals then made the difference _ first on a power play at 17:39 and then on an empty-netter at 18:21.
The Blues had killed off 46 of 48 penalties dating back to the end of November, prior to the Radulov power-play goal.
The Blues are now 3-7 without Jaden Schwartz and fell to 23-15-2 for the season.
Mattias Janmark scored the Stars' other goal at the 3:49 mark of the second period.
