The number of people infected with the novel coronavirus in areas under control of the Syrian regime has reached 72, revealed trusted medical sources.

Cases among Iranian forces, the Fatemiyoun militia and non-Syrian members of pro-Tehran militias has reached 116.

Reliable reports have confirmed the spread of the virus in the Sayeda Zeinab area, south of Damascus.

Thirty patients have recovered amid concerns among the locals where Iranian militias are deployed, such as Deir Ezzor, the southern Aleppo and southern Damascus countryside, of the spread of the virus, especially after a large number of regime forces became infected after coming in contact with Iranian forces.

In the Latakia province alone, 26 Syrians have tested positive for the disease, the sources told the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. In Tartus, 16 cases were registered and 30 were confirmed in Aleppo, Damascus, Hama, Homs and Daraa.

Meanwhile, the number of people placed in quarantine jumped to 500, 220 of whom tested negative and were discharged.

The health ministry reported Saturday that 25 cases have been detected, as the regime continues to hide the real figures of infections in areas under its control.
