John Lewis has kicked off the Christmas shopping season by launching its festive commercial.
The department store chain has set a new benchmark for Christmas television campaigns in recent years by attracting tens of millions of viewers to watch its advertising online.
Last year its commercial, featuring Monty the Penguin, topped the chart for online views again – although supermarket chain Sainsbury’s put up a tough fight.
