'Last thing we needed' - Liverpool FC fans react to Manchester United being up for sale

Manchester United's current owners the Glazers have accepted that they are seeking to 'explore strategic alternatives', with the sale of the club being explored.

Having owned the Premier League giants outright for 17 years, many fans have been extremely vocal in their request for the club to be sold, with it now seemingly evident the US family has given in. With the news breaking on Tuesday, comparisons have already bene made with Liverpool's current situation regarding their owners, FSG.

Both Liverpool and United are currently owned by US businessmen, with the price for both clubs thought to be around the same region of £4-5bn. Some have also suggested a global recession is heading next year, with both parties perhaps seeking a perfect time to cash in on their footballing ventures.

Fans have taken to social media to react to the news, with supporters of the red half of Merseyside eager to learn the motive behind the Glazers' decision-making...

@tizlad : ''So #LFC and United for sale. Dollar as strong as it has ever been against the pound. Possible global recession. Best time to get out. United will be state-owned, and sold before us, the Glazers won't care who they sell too. Last thing we needed from our point of view #LFC.''

@EnamAnfield : ''Funny how FSG and Glazers are always in sync.''

@essinem7 : ''Wonder why Glazers have decided to sell at the same time as FSG... #LFC.''

@RedKite20222 : ''Well done FSG and Liverpool, announcing Liverpool FC is for sale forcing the Glazers hand into selling Utd, not many out there who can pay billions for football clubs and the Glazers didn't want to miss out.''

@mturner1961 : ''Few things are more pathetic in sport than football fans begging billionaires to buy their club when there’s little reason to suspect they will be happier than they are with the current owners.''

@LFC4EVA96 : ''This will be an interesting time in football fanship for two of the biggest clubs in England because there's obviously a divide forming between the local fans and the global fans when it comes to opinions on ownership and morality.''

@matt_24117 : ''Imagine the Glazers sell UTD and they bought LFC imagine Klopp with 200/300 million a season to spend.''

@banx82 : ''Neither have the Glazers. If they owned Liverpool and took out what they do with us Liverpool would be bankrupt.''
