Nate Watson sank a free throw with 1.1 seconds left as Providence edged DePaul 66-65 on Saturday at Wintrust Arena.
The game had 10 lead changes and 10 ties, but the Friars led for most of the second half before DePaul’s Jalen Coleman-Lands hit three free throws to tie it at 65 with 16 seconds left. Watson was fouled with a second to play and sank his second from the line.
Maliek White and Luwane Pipkins had 16 points apiece for Providence (9-6, 2-0 Big East). Emmitt Holt added 12 points. Watson finished with six points and six rebounds.
Paul Reed had 24 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks for the Blue Demons (12-3, 0-2). Coleman-Lands added 15 points. Charlie Moore had 11.
DePaul’s next game is at St. John’s at 11 a.m. next Saturday.
