An iconic pub situated in the heart of East Kilbride for 60 years will call last orders for the final time next week.
The Tower Bar is to close its doors for good with management today confirming speculation that the Belhaven Pub is to cease trading on Tuesday, June 20.
Lanarkshire Live understands the pub's 10 staff were only notified of the closure last Friday, June 9.
A spokesperson for Belhaven said today: "After running The Tower Bar for a number of years, we have seen our customer numbers decrease and we have now taken the difficult decision to close.
"We have informed the team and are aiming to find them new roles at our other pubs in the area. We would like to thank all our customers who have supported the Tower Bar over the years."
Famous for homemade pub grub and great beers, wines and spirits, the iconic local watering hole in East Kilbride shopping centre's Princes Square has been a staple in the town for six decades.
Formerly My Father's Moustache, the local haunt was a firm favourite in its hey day with regulars enjoying a drink before heading upstairs to the old Gemini and latterly Splash nightclub.
Shocked locals have shared fond memories of the pub online.
One commented: "Some good times in that boozer. The Old Firm charity nights, my band played live music. Many a good night, lots of memories. Really sad."
Another posted: "Shame, had many good days/nights in the 'tash'."
A former regular wrote: "Many a night going into The Tower on a Friday and Saturday night with work colleagues before heading up the dancin'. If we weren't going up the dancin' we'd head through to The Tash and spent Sunday evenings in the there for the karaoke. It'll be a big loss to EK."
And another post read: "Such a shame for the staff and another nail in coffin for the town centre. It's closing because it is so quiet. If you don't use it, you lose it."
This latest closure follows a series of difficult years for the centre, which has struggled to retain existing, or attract new, businesses to the town.
The owners of EK, East Kilbride - Sapphire - became insolvent last November, plunging the future of the town centre into uncertainty.
Blair Nimmo and Alistair McAlinden of Interpath Advisory were appointed joint administrators.
The Centre remains open with all day-to-day operations unaffected by the administration process under the control of Reith Lambert.
