Star Trek, Last of Us, Rookie and 24 actor Annie Wersching dies, aged 45

Actor Annie Wersching has died at the age of 45 with cancer, her husband Stephen Full has said. Annie was known for her roles in Last of Us, The Rookie and 24.

In a statement, her husband said: "There is a cavernous hole in the soul of this family today. But she left us the tools to fill it. She found wonder in the simplest moment. She didn’t require music to dance. She taught us not to wait for adventure to find you," he wrote.

"‘Go find it. It’s everywhere.’ And find it we shall. As I drove our boys, the true loves of her life, down the winding driveway and street, she would yell BYE! until we were out of earshot and into the world. I can still hear it ringing. Bye my Buddie. ‘I love you little family…’ “

The director and producer of 24, Jon Cassar, also paid tribute to the star, reports The Mirror.

Her first TV role was as a character in Star Trek: Enterprise and among her last was as the Borg Queen in Picard.

"My heart is broken in more pieces than I can count. Annie came into my world with an open heart and a contagious smile. Brandishing such talent, she took my breath away.

"Annie became more than a workmate, she became a real friend to me, my family and every cast and crew member that worked with her.

"She’ll be truly missed by them and the fans she always found time to interact with. Annie you’ll be missed, you left your mark, and we’re all the better for it."

The actor was diagnosed with cancer in 2020 and continued to star in films and TV shows. She was known for her role as Renee Walker in 24 and also had roles in Timeless, Runaways, The Vampire Diaries, Bosch and General Hospital.

Annie also guest-starred in Frasier, Angel, Supernatural, Hawaii Five-0, Blue Bloods and Boston Legal.

She voiced Tess in The Last Of Us video game, which recently turned into a series.

She is survived by her husband and her three children Freddie, 12; Ozzie, and Archie, 4.

A GoFundMe page was set up to support the family. A description read: "She's a private person by nature, and the diagnosis made her even more so. She wanted to protect her boys.

"She wanted to get better so she could continue working. And honestly, she just didn't really want to talk about it. She wanted to live her life, on her terms, and be with her family."

Neil Druckmann, the creator of The Last Of Us, paid tribute to the actress on Twitter.

"Just found out my dear friend, Annie Wersching, passed away," he tweeted. "We just lost a beautiful artist and human being.

"My heart is shattered. Thoughts are with her loved ones. There’s a go fund me set up for her family."

A user shared a clip of her character in the video game and wrote: "rip Annie Wersching Way too many talented people being taken from us."
