The last time a woman was seen alive has been revealed, before she was allegedly murdered by her housemate and left inside their home for almost two months.

Tasmania Police has released photos and CCTV footage of the woman seen inside a shopping precinct on March 18, the last time investigators believe she was seen alive.

The woman's body was found on Saturday in her New Town home in Hobart, where police say she lay dead for almost two months.

The 61-year-old, whom police have not named at her family's request, regularly attended the Glenorchy CBD and New Town areas, Detective Inspector David Gill said.

"As we work to form a timeline, we're seeking assistance from the public in relation to the woman's movements prior to when she was located," he said.

"We're asking that anyone who has seen her, assisted her, or had interactions with her, to contact us."

The woman's 56-year-old housemate has been charged with murder and appeared before Hobart Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Authorities were alerted about the death on Saturday afternoon and found her body laying in a corridor of the home.

Police had attended the property earlier that morning to take the man to a medical appointment but did not enter the home, Det Insp Gill said on Sunday.
