The Lebanese were on Tuesday eagerly waiting for the press conference of Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri, who is expected to announce his position from a Hezbollah request to have one of the six independent Sunni deputies represented in the next cabinet.
Lebanese observers remained divided Monday.
Some “optimistic” figures predicted the near formation of the new government based on a deal to represent the pro-Hezbollah Sunni deputies from the share of President Michel Aoun.
However, other pessimists projected more tension after Hariri's expected rejection to Hezbollah’s request.
“There will be a cabinet soon,” a Mustaqbal Movement source said, without revealing details on the initiative launched by head of the Free Patriotic Movement and caretaker Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil.
According to some sources, Bassil is seeking to resolve the “Sunni obstacle” by choosing a consensual figure.
Meanwhile, the Central News Agency said officials are working on solving the Sunni representation in the aftermath of Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah’s speech, which threw the ball in the camp of the six Sunni ministers and Hariri.
The sources predicted that the Sunni minister representing the pro-Hezbollah deputies would be from Aoun’s shares.
"We are working towards our goal to form a national unity government, regardless of the obstacles, and in accordance with equitable representation criteria, without marginalizing any party,” Bassil said following a meeting with Speaker Nabih Berri and before holding talks with Hariri.
