Last Epoch season three introduces a thrilling new mechanic for daring adventurers: face the dangerous Rift Beasts to claim parts for the powerful Primordial items. These items offer immense power but can only be equipped at a time, making each build decision critical.
Last Epoch takes you back to the Ancient Era, where you’ll have an opportunity to venture into mysterious Rifts and fight the Rift Beast and evolve their next generations for you to gather useful parts to purchase Primordial items from the Skarven Bloodhorn NPC. If you’re looking for these special Rifts in your travels, we’ve got you covered.
How to find the Rift Beast portals in Last Epoch

In Last Epoch, seeking out Rift Beast portals is the key to acquiring powerful Primordial items. You can find them in the Campaign zones, and Monolith of Fate Echoes have a chance to spawn either a Mysterious Rift or a Torn Rift. You cannot find them in Quest Echoes and Arena Echoes. These rifts come in two distinct types, each offering a unique challenge and path to rewards:
- Torn Green-colored Rifts: These green portals manifest as emerald-green rifts shaped as claw marks directly within the environment of any endgame monolith timeline or Ancient era. Once you interact with it, a Rift Beast emerges right then and there on your current map. You must defeat it amidst the existing enemies and environmental hazards, so we recommend clearing the other enemies before touching the Rift to summon the Beast.
Once you defeat the Rift Beast, it drops the loot directly on the spot, offering a quicker way to potential Primordial items by getting parts and other items.
- Mysterious Yellow-colored Rifts: Once you interact with these glowing yellow-colored claw marks, you will be transported to the Ancient Era just outside the entrance of a new Cave side zone. You should find the Skarven Bloodhorn NPC, who will help you buy multiple new items, including the Primordial items. Unlike the previous Rift, you’ll have to clear the waves in this Primal Hunt and take the fight to the Rift Beast in their den to get solid rewards. Moreover, you also get an opportunity to evolve the Lineage of Rift Beasts or end the Lineage altogether.
How to evolve Rift Beast and get personalized rewards in Last Epoch

Once a Rift Beast is defeated in its den, they drop Ancient Bones, Primordial materials, and general loot, and occasionally give a Primordial Unique. The chances of dropping a Primordial Unique can be increased by its evolutions. You can evolve the Lineage of upcoming Rift Beasts, where it’ll gain a new trait associated with the Evolution, with a new possible loot, and at least one guaranteed Primordial Material.
Rift Beasts evolve through a dynamic system known as Evolution Traits, granting them powerful new abilities—including summoning additional enemies. With over 60 unique Evolutions available, you can only choose each ability once per Lineage. Initially, a Lineage can hold up to four Evolutions, but this capacity can be expanded to seven by fully completing two Lineages and finishing the new Woven Echo located in the Rampant Coast.
Once you’ve evolved a Rift Beast without concluding its Lineage, you’ll begin encountering Torn green-colored Rifts instead of Mysterious Rifts. These rifts trigger an ambush by a Rift Beast from your current Lineage, which still drops loot tied to its Evolutions.
After defeating two to four of these ambushing beasts, your next Rift will revert to a Mysterious Yellow-colored Rift, returning you to the Ancient Era to further evolve the Rift Beast or end the Lineage. Ending a Lineage rewards a non-Primordial unique item called Evolution’s End, and once you reach the maximum number of Evolutions, you’ll only be able to conclude the Lineage and start a new one.
