Last Christmas trailer: Emilia Clarke stars in first look at romcom with music of George Michael

The first trailer for the festive romcom Last Christmas has been revealed, featuring the songs of George Michael.

Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke plays lead character Kate in the film, which focuses on a woman working as an elf in a novelty Christmas shop.

The film, which recently finished shooting in London, follows the fledgling relationship between Kate and soup kitchen volunteer Tom played by Henry Golding, who keeps bumping into her around the city.

In the clip we see Kate do some shambolic carolling for charity in Covent Garden, as well as skating on Alexandra Palace ice rink and even being pooed on by a bird of prey.

It's not all festive cheer, though. As parts of Clarke’s character’s life begins to unravel in the story, she opens up to Tom and reveals the health problems she's struggled with.

“I’m a mess. I was really sick and I nearly died,” she says. “I don’t tell people because they get weird. But I don’t think you’ll get weird.”

“No,” Tom replies.

Clarke and Golding are joined in the cast by Crazy Rich Asians star Michelle Yeoh, who plays Clarke’s boss. Emma Thompson, as well as penning the script, also stars as her mother.

Thompson also co-wrote the screenplay with Bryony Kimmings. George Michael saw parts of the script before he passed away on Christmas Day in 2016, and gave his blessing.

Bridesmaids and Ghostbusters director Paul Feig will helm the film, having reportedly worked with Michael’s estate on the project.
