Last chance to see Elmer the Elephant as sculptures go on show for the last time in Newcastle

They've been adding some welcome colour to Tyneside's streets but now the Elmer the Elephant sculptures have been whisked away in readiness for their upcoming sale.

The 50 individually decorated elephants, which made up a trail for families to follow around Tyne and Wear, have been herded together to offer fans one last chance to see them before they are auctioned off in aid of the St Oswald's Hospice charity.

They are currently on show -  for the first time as a herd - at Newcastle Racecourse , accompanied by the 114 smaller Elmers which made up a mini trail, having arrived there for the start of their Farewell Weekend on Saturday.

And they will remain there only until Sunday, November 10, with ticketed viewing available until 4pm.

The event - which is also dog-friendly - will open at 10am but the first hour will be a relaxed session dedicated to those who find busy environments challenging.

How much does it cost to see the Elmer herd?

Online tickets are priced at £5 per adult (age 16-plus) and £3 per child (age 4-15) while children aged three and under will be admitted free of charge.

A £16 family ticket admits up four people, including at least one adult, and booking fees and VAT apply to all online sales.

There will be a small price increase for tickets bought on the door. The St Oswald's website  has more information and tickets for the farewell event.

The sculptures then go up for auction at Sage Gateshead on Tuesday. See .
