Last chance to see Dippy the Dinosaur in Newcastle - and you can dance at a silent disco

You've got less than a week left to see the record-breaking Dippy the Dinosaur exhibition in Newcastle.

The 26-metre-long Diplodocus skeleton cast helped bring in 107,944 visitors to the Great North Museum: Hancock over the six-week summer holiday, the museum's best figures for a decade. It is the most popular temporary exhibition the Hancock has ever hosted.

Anyone who has yet to see Dippy has under a week to get to the Hancock before the skeleton is moved to Cardiff.

The free-to-visit exhibition closes on Sunday October 6. The museum is also hosting a farewell 'silent disco' on Friday, October 4, where visitors can dance the night away in front of the famous dinosaur.

Caroline McDonald, manager at the Great North Museum: Hancock, said: "The reaction has been phenomenal. Thanks to Dippy, we are well ahead of our yearly visitor target and we have seen a big uplift in shop sales and donations. All of this helps us continue to deliver great cultural experiences for our visitors.

"We want to thank everyone that has supported us over the summer and encourage those who haven’t seen Dippy to come along to the museum before he leaves in October."

Dippy on Tour: A Natural History Adventure is at the Great North Museum: Hancock until Sunday 6 October, with free entry. Silent disco tickets costing £4 are available from greatnorthmuseum.org.uk Advance booking is not essential for the exhibition.
