Apprentices and employers are being urged to enter the Cornwall Apprenticeship Awards as the deadline for nominations looms.
The event is one of the leading training awards in the South West. Now in its fifth year, hosts Truro and Penwith College are again on the hunt for apprentices and employers that demonstrate outstanding achievement and commitment to apprenticeships, with nominations being accepted via the college’s website: www.truro-penwith.ac.uk/CAA.
Any learner or employer who is involved in apprenticeship training in Cornwall is eligible to be nominated, regardless of the college or training provider delivering their training, provided they are still training as an apprentice or completed their training after June 1, 2018.
If you feel your child, friend or relative has demonstrated outstanding commitment to their Apprenticeship, the college wants to hear from you.
In addition to nominating apprentices, the awards are being touted as a way to thank an employer for its support by nominating it for one of the employer categories.
Cornwall’s 2018 Apprentice of the Year was 18-year-old engineer Daniel Rutter from Falmouth. Daniel was also awarded Engineering and Manufacturing Apprentice of the Year, and despite being no stranger to recognition and praise from colleagues and tutors, becoming a double award winner was not something Daniel was expecting.
“I didn’t expect to win the Engineering and Manufacturing category, let alone Cornwall’s Apprentice of the Year,” said Daniel. “It was overwhelming, I felt joy, excitement, just to be nominated was a dream come true. I came here to enjoy the evening, when they announced I had won I was speechless.
“My confidence and self-belief will definitely grow as a result of this evening”.
Making a dream come true for an apprentice you know is easier than you might think. The simple nomination process requires just one 500 word explanation of why the apprentice should win and 51 nominees will be shortlisted when nominations close on Monday, September 9, 2019.
A panel of judgesconsisting of employers across Cornwall will decide who will win each of the 17 categories at the awards on November 15.
