'Last chance' - Newcastle United fans react to Jonjo Shelvey's recall

Newcastle United head coach Steve Bruce has recalled Jonjo Shelvey to the starting eleven for this afternoon's trip to West Ham United.

The former England international will partner Isaac Hayden in the engine room for the clash at the London Stadium.

The pair are the only two changes Bruce has made, replacing suspended Sean Longstaff and Matty Longstaff who has dropped to the bench.

Despite the Magpies' attacking woes - with Newcastle only scoring six goals in their opening 10 Premier League matches - Bruce has persevered with the triumvirate of Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin on either side of Joelinton. Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle will both provide options from the bench.

Bruce confirmed on Friday that Hayden would be restored to the team following his three-match suspension for his red card at Leicester City.

But the selection of former England international Shelvey was more of a surprise, with the 27-year-old edging out Ki Sung-Yueng and Matty Longstaff.

It is expected to be a tough afternoon for United in the capital, and fans on social media believe it's a big afternoon in store for Shelvey.

Ciaran Kelly's recent column cited how the former Liverpool and Swansea City midfielder was playing for a new contract on Tyneside, and several supporters have echoed this opinion.
