Last call for late King's final commemorative stamps

Now is the last chance for collectors to buy stamps featuring the portrait of the late King Bhumibol, as Thailand Post will launch the final stamp collection series of the late King on Oct 25.

Thailand Post will launch the final series of collectible stamps featuring portraits of the late King Bhumibol on Oct 25.

The last commemorative stamp series will mark the late King's royal cremation ceremony and is scheduled to be provided through Thailand Post's 1,300 post offices nationwide.

Samorn Therdthampibun, president of Thailand Post, said 3 million sets of stamps have been produced for the commemorative event, each set comprising three stamp sheets with 13 designs, priced at 99 baht total.

Thailand Post sold reservations to buy the stamps from Aug 28 to Sept 11 at its offices and on its website. Fewer than 2 million sets of the stamps are still available for sale on Oct 25.

The first sheet comprises nine portraits of the late King. The second sheet has three stamps with images of the royal coffin, the royal palanquins and the royal chariots. The last sheet consists of a big image of the late King's funeral pyre and a crowd of Thais praying and singing at Sanam Luang on Oct 22, 2016.

Mrs Samorn said the stamps featuring the portraits of the late King have nearly sold out.

Since 1974, the company has produced almost 2 billion commemorative stamps of the late King, comprising 70 series with 349 designs. Each series of stamps featuring portraits of the late King and the royal family were produced only once.

She said officers at Thailand Post's branches nationwide have reported long queues to buy the stamps featuring portraits of the late King every day since Oct 14 of last year.

A variety of commemorative stamps of the late King are available, including a first series of portraits, a commemoration of the late King's accession to the throne, and a series on the late King's royal duties.
