Fan cited for shining laser pointer at Tom Brady during AFC title game

In the wake of January’s AFC championship game, it was reported that police and the NFL were investigating an incident in which a fan shone a laser pointer at Tom Brady and other Patriots players. The incident occurred during the fourth quarter of the game, just as things were heating up between the Chiefs and the Patriots to force overtime.

The Chiefs later identified that fan, a 64-year-old man from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and he was banned for life from all events at Arrowhead Stadium. Now, the fan has been cited and faces a $1,000 fine or up to a year in prison for disturbing the peace, as first reported by the Kansas City Star.

Jackson County prosecutors did not disclose how the police were able to identify the man, but it was previously reported that the Chiefs used eyewitness statements and videotape in order to track him down.

This punishment seems quite lax, considering the Chiefs had pushed for the harshest possible penalty. They wanted to make an example out of this man in order to deter fans from doing something like this in the future. What do you think, Chiefs Kingdom? Does the punishment fit the crime?
