It was exactly a year ago today the Raiders made their switch from Oakland to Las Vegas official. They held an event outside the still-under-construction Allegiant Stadium to announce it. The Governor made it official.
“I, Steve Sisolak, Governor of the state of Nevada, do hereby proclaim January 22, 2020 as the day to celebrate the renaming of the Las Vegas Raiders.”
The team removed Oakland from their names after their season finale, which meant there was a three-week period where they were just the Raiders, with no location. Kind of the inverse of the Washington Football Team which has a location without a name.
Then immediately following the big announcement, they added Las Vegas in front of the team name on their official website along with all social media accounts.
Initially the plan was to remain physically in Alameda through the offseason, and not make the big move until after training camp in Napa. But the pandemic had other plans. And as soon as the Henderson facility was ready to start moving stuff in, they pulled up stakes.
The stadium was completed on schedule as well, with their first time taking the field during training camp, which was held at their Henderson facility as well.
