Larry O'Gorman claims Wexford will have to find like-for-like Davy Fitzgerald replacement in future

If and when Davy Fitzgerald leaves Wexford, Larry O'Gorman insists a manager with the same passion and drive must be sourced to continue the Model County's progress.

Asked to compare the Liam Griffin method with that of Fitzgerald's, O'Gorman acknowledges that it's like comparing ice and fire in some ways.

"Davy's a little bit wilder now," smiled O'Gorman.

But in essence, they have the same quality. "It's all about passion," he noted.

"When a manager is talking to you straight in the eye before you go out, you know he means business and it's up to you then to come back with the result.

"Davy's the same as Liam Griffin when it comes to that want to win, never give in (attitude)."

If results go against Wexford tonight, it could be the end of the road in Wexford for Fitzgerald. The likelihood is that it won't end tonight.

"That can happen, yeah," said O'Gorman. "If Davy does leave, who do you get in to replace him? It's going to be quite tough, to be honest.

"Maybe some of the backroom team that are with him and know exactly what's going on. Or JJ Doyle, the ex-U-21 manager and camogie manager, he might step up to the plate.

"Do the county board go outside again and get a bigger name? Derek McGrath? Eddie Brennan?

"If you want to keep the passion going, you have to get someone with passion in them. Our boys are driven on passion.

"You can see the way they fight for each other. The management have instilled that.

"After three years, if he does go and we haven't won any silverware, he has risen the county in terms of backsides on seats, more kids interested in the game.

"He certainly has brought our levels up to a new level.

"Sometimes people only judge you on what you won though, not on how well you did yourself.

"Personally I think people would like to see some silverware, somewhere".
