Larry Fitzgerald continues to shine in community

Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald is a star on and off the field. The former Walter Payton Man of the Year continues to do great things in the community.

The latest was over the weekend. On Friday night, Fitzgerald surprised 14 local youth athletes from the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix and the Phoenix Indian Center with a shopping spree at DICK’S Sporting Goods to gear up for his football ProCamp.

Each child received $200 to spend on behalf of the DICK’s Sporting Goods Foundation Sports Matter program. The DICK’S Foundation also presented Fitzgerald’s First Down Fund with a $250 thousand dollar Sports Matter Grant which he used to provide 342 scholarships to underprivileged Phoenix-area kids to attend his camp.

“It’s an attempt to combat the budget cuts for all these young people and the sports activities they are able to do in schools and outside of schools,” Fitzgerald said.

He said more than 700 kids came out for the camp.

Getting to interact with a pro like Fitz and getting to get gear they might not otherwise be able to, it is yet another reason why Fitzgerald is an icon here in Arizona.
