Larry Fitzgerald calls new Cardinals offense simpler, faster

Much has been made about the new Arizona Cardinals offense under rookie head coach Kliff Kingsbury and rookie quarterback Kyler Murray. While Kingsbury hasn’t revealed much, we have gotten some tidbits from players.

Receiver Larry Fitzgerald revealed two things, only one of which is visible to spectators.

He said it is simpler and faster than previous offenses he has been in.

“The language is simpler, but you have to process it faster,” he said, according to SI.com’s Robert Klemko. “In this system, you’re on the ball and you don’t have an abundance of time to understand what’s going on. You have to decipher and be able to play fast.”

That speed will actually make things more complicated for the skill players but the language should make things simpler for blockers.

“It’s not so much what he’s installing that stand out; it’s how its run, the tempo of it,” Fitzgerald says. “Every single day, with more experience, we were able to run it faster and faster and faster, get more plays in more efficiently. The faster guys understand the concepts the more pressure we can put on defenses.”

And Murray has been good to go since Day 1. Fitz noted how Murray was audibling into more favorable calls even in the first day of practice.

Arizona should be able to run more plays than in years past, assuming the pace also means more production. Pace without production could be disastrous.
