Tiernan Lynch knows Larne will have to be at their best to complete a Big Two double when title-chasing Linfield roll into Inver Park this evening (7.45pm).
In-form Glentoran were beaten 2-1 at the East Antrim venue on Saturday night thanks to a dramatic added time winner from Johnny McMurray.
It was the first time in 12 attempts this season Larne had beaten a top-five side and Lynch hopes to back it up against the Blues who can go top of the table with a win.
“We had maybe lacked a little bit of belief against the bigger teams this season and just couldn’t get results across the line,” said Lynch.
“There was no better way to secure our first win over a top-five side and hopefully we can take that belief into Tuesday night.”
A high profile win over the Glens was the perfect tonic to the previous week’s dispiriting 3-0 defeat at new league leaders Crusaders.
“Glentoran are a top team, so I was delighted with the performance - we were superb,” said Lynch.
“Nobody hurt more than the players after the Crusaders game and they wanted to put that right. They knew they had let themselves down and didn’t need to be told.”
Lynch praised , just a day before lining out against the Glens.
The midfielder enjoyed a really solid debut sitting at the base of the Larne midfield alongside the equally impressive Fuad Sule.
“I thought he was magnificent,” said Lynch. “We knew what we were getting when we signed Andy. He’s a top player and a top person.”
