Larne midfielder Lee Lynch hopes Saturday's brace on the Braid helps ignite his season

Lee Lynch is determined Larne’s blistering 3-0 win at Ballymena United fires a starting gun on a potential charge up the league table for the East Antrim club.

The Limerick-born midfielder also hopes his eye catching display and two goal salvo at the Showgrounds delivered a timely reminder of what he brings to the Invermen’s attack.

Saturday was only Lynch’s second full 90 minutes of the league campaign and his first in seven weeks since a 4-1 win at Institute on September 14.

In 11 league appearances for Larne this season, the 27-year-old, who joined the club from Sligo Rovers in January, has come off the bench five times and been substituted four times.

“I’ve been in and out of the team, but I’m experienced enough to know that your form can dip up and down,” he said.

“As a player and with the way we play football, you want to be in this Larne team every single week and that takes hard work, but it also goes on form.

“With the attacking options we have, you need to be scoring and assisting goals. I was doing that last year, but my form has been up and down this season.

“It has been really frustrating but you have to believe things will change and I’m glad I was able to contribute to a big result at Ballymena.

“Hopefully that’s my form back now and it helps kick start my season from a personal point of view.”

Saturday’s Showgrounds stroll against was Larne’s first win and clean sheet in six outings in all competitions.

Lynch won the penalty for Jeff Hughes’ early opener before he bagged his first league goals of the campaign in the 39th and 55th minutes.

“It was a great win and we needed a result like that,” he said. “Obviously, we hadn’t been on a great run lately and results had been up and down.

“It was important we got a 90 minute performance because we’ve had good spells in games and maybe not got on top of teams and scored goals when the pressure was there.

“When we were on top at Ballymena, we managed to score goals at crucial times and that was important. It should breed confidence moving forward.”

Larne’s next fixture is a Sky Sports clash with Crusaders at Inver Park on Monday night, while high profile dates with Cliftonville and Linfield also lie in wait at the end of the month.

The Crues, Reds and Blues are all currently in the top-four, hot on the heels of leaders Coleraine , while Larne lie sixth, seven points off Glentoran in fifth with a game in hand.

“There are no easy games but we want to play these bigs games,” said Lynch. “If you want to be near the top of the table these are the teams you have to start beating.

“Crusaders will be up for it on Monday night, but we can only focus on ourselves. We should be full of confidence after Saturday’s performance at Ballymena.”
