Larkhall man smashed window at parents' home and threatened to kill his mum

A Larkhall man smashed a window at his parents’ home after demanding money from them.

Elliot Findlay also threatened to kill his mum, Hamilton Sheriff Court heard this week.

Findlay, 23, of Spey Wynd, admitted threatening or abusive behaviour at the house in Brown Street, Larkhall, on May 10 and 25.

He also admitted breaching an order to stay away from the property, imposed after the first of two incidents there.

Victoria Ferguson, prosecuting, said Findlay turned up at midday on May 10 and became aggressive when he was refused a loan.

She told the court: “He started shouting then left, telling his mum he would be back.

“His parents then heard a loud bang from the kitchen and saw that a glass panel in the window had been smashed.

“The police were contacted and officers found the accused still at the house.

“He admitted smashing the window and said he wished he had done more. He added that he was going to murder his mother.”

Findlay was treated in hospital for cuts to his arm.

It was arranged he would appear in court in August and he was ordered to keep away from his parents’ home.

But he returned on May 25, again demanding money.

He became abusive and when the police arrived he shouted and swore at them as well.

When arrested he told officers: “I love the jail.”

Defence agent Ian Scott said Findlay has mental health issues.

The solicitor added: “He is now taking his medication which he wasn’t doing at the time of these outbursts.”

Sheriff Alasdair MacFadyen called for criminal justice social work and electronic tagging reports.

Findlay was placed on bail and sentence was deferred until July 30.
